This Week Signing Off!
This week marks the end to my semester of production classes, experimental projects, and collaborating with others in the department. I found this class in particular to be very fun and educational. I've definitely become a better filmmaker both through the projects we've had to do and the filmmakers we had to present on. This class has exposed me to many experimental filmmakers that I haven't heard of before but I want to use their influence in my work, such as Jen Proctor, Michel Gondry, and George Kuchar. And, if I'm being honest, I took some influence from Marlon Riggs thanks to some of what we saw in class and I added it to my documentary. I wanted to emulate some of the lyricalness of Tongues Untied and in the future, I think I'll borrow some more techniques from the documentary.
This class also introduced me to film stock and how important lighting is. I have never worked with film before in my life, and though I don't have an interest in it overall, I think it was great for us to learn some basic information on it. It's a dying art form and so many people my age have no clue what to do with it. On that note, I also really realllyyy appreciated working with sound. I hate sound still, but throughout my projects, I learned how to finally edit it. I used some techniques other classmates taught me in my groups for other classes of mine and I am so thankful. I learned how to sample some sounds and utilize them to make a soundscape. I used the same technique used in the first soundscape project to make the soundscape for my documentary and for my self portrait. It is SO much better than looking around for music that is royalty free!
Lastly, my take away for this class are all the amazing people I got to make connections with and plan on collaborating with in the future. I got to see who I worked with best and what qualities I prefer in a partner on set. I have the contact information of everyone I would work with again, so when I graduate, I can just call them up. My biggest struggle and main reason why I even came to film school in the first place was for people to work with. So thank you FST 302 for allowing me to network and finally make some stuff at school. I owe you one!

I considered giving your Riggs...I knew you'd love him. But, I also knew Jen was so right for that 495 project. I'm glad you connected to them both and can't wait to see how they influence the film as it evolves!
